1. FBI Website

Do you fancy yourself a wannabe FBI agent? If so, you may like the FBI’s website; we came across it this week – who even knew they had a website? I guess we should have suspected (I mean, who doesn’t have a website), but I suppose their secretive nature kept us from even thinking about it.

Anyway, they have some pretty cool stuff on the site, including videos, breaking news, and current “most wanted” lists. There is even a “fun and games” page where you can do all kinds of neat stuff including testing your cryptanalysis skills. Kids and crime show addicts should love it.

2. Huh, How ‘Bout That, Some Interesting Titanic News

The hundred year anniversary of the Titanic is coming up, and if you’re like us, you’ve paid little attention to all the hoopla. Is there really anything else to say about the Titanic? Apparently there is, and we stumbled across it (and actually read it) over on Yahoo news. It’s not exactly new facts about the shipwreck, but more of how it’s affecting modern day.

According to the article, many teens didn’t even realize the Titanic was real (they just thought it was a movie), Chinese moviegoers can’t touch Kate Winslet’s 3-D breasts, the anniversary cruise is cursed, the theme song makes Kate Winslet Nauseas, and there is a $12,000 Titanic-shaped tent. If any of that sounds curious you can read the whole article on Yahoo.

3. Amish Mugshots

What happens when an Amish dude refuses to put an orange triangle on his buggy? He gets arrested, of course. Check out these mugs.

4. Japanese Department Store Having a Fucking Sale

We just want to know is it a fucking sale or a fucking sale, because there is a difference. Either way, it’s hilarious. This story is actually a few months old, but it still makes us chuckle every time we think about it.

5. Many Skeptical of Texas’ Claim of 4’ of Hail

Wednesday, Amarillo, TX had a shocking 4 feet of hail accumulate in their city, and people everywhere thought they were lying … despite photo evidence. Granted, the packed down ice does look like big boulders and not ice, but did the skeptics really think the state of Texas and the National Weather Service were trying to pull one over on the American public? We’re all for questioning things you see on the internet, but sheesh…

6. Wow, Lady Gets Her Flushed Wedding Ring Back 18 Months Later

Make no mistake, if you flush your jewelry down the toilet, there’s pretty much no chance that you’re getting it back. But, one Idahoan woman had a perfect storm of good luck and was able to get hers back. Here’s a rundown of the story:

Woman flushes ring (don’t ask us how you accidently flush a ring).

Husband looks through pipes under house. No luck.

18 months later, while doing maintenance, waste workers find ring in filter basket.

Maintenance workers don’t keep ring for themselves (this is the tricky part).

Workers put story of lost ring on news.

Lady actually sees the news story (what are the chances?)

All in all, a really random, but cool story.

7. Toothpaste Thief

What people won’t do for a bright smile… read about the toothpaste thief at the sfgate.com.

Didn’t have time to follow the news the past couple of weeks? Don’t worry, we’ve gathered some of the most interesting things that have happened. These should keep you from looking totally uninformed.

Seal Steal

This video posted a couple of years ago, but it’s been trending this week. Check out this seal…he’s no dummy.

– Watch More Funny Videos

Dude! I Want That…

Again, this isn’t necessarily news, but if you haven’t checked out this site then you need to. It’s full of all the things you never knew you had to have until you saw them, including a Vampire Killing Kit, a $20,000 Hypoallergenic Designer Housecat, and The World According to Americans Map (too funny).

The Jesus Mall

Okay, it’s actually called the City Creek Center, but this $1.5 billion mega-mall belongs to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (A.K.A the Mormons). Wow, we never knew God was into over-priced retail stores like Tiffany’s and Nordstroms. For a religion that claims to be Christians, they seem to have forgotten Jesus was meek, lowly, and against “worldly” things. Seems to us, $1.5 billion (not to mention the $3.5 billion which went to the surrounding condos) could have built a lot of water wells in Africa or provided years worth of food for the hungry – just sayin.

Giant Sturgeon

A normal Atlantic Sturgeon looks like this:

The one that washed up on the coast of South Carolina looked like this:

Although this thing looks totally freaky, apparently, these fish can grow up to 15 feet and weigh as much as 800 lbs. You just never know what you’re swimming with.

New York City Schools Want to Ban 50 Words from Tests

NYC schools have come up with a list of 50 “sensitive” words which they feel have no place on standardized tests. Here are a few of the proposed banned words (children and the easily offended beware):

Divorce

Dinosaur

Birthdays

Religion

Halloween

Christmas

Pepperoni

Ahhh!! Make it stop, make it stop!

Having to see those words is enough to make you want to give up your teaching career. For real, this is definitely the point where political correctness has gone totally out of control.

Tube Travel

This is one of those things you hear about once and then never again. Still, it seems the only thing stopping us from traveling in capsules at speeds up to 4,000 mph is money. Inventor Daryl Oster has it all figured out and just needs some funding (maybe he should ask the Mormons). With his technology, people could travel from Washington DC to Beijing in about two hours (usually 14 hours).

We guess there’s too many people involved in the current transportation industry who will snub out this idea (to protect their own business), but wouldn’t it be cool?

April Fool’s 2012

Since today is April Fool’s Day, we had to share some of the amusing stuff happening on the web. The Next Web has a list of funny things. Our favorite? Conan taking over Mashable. Can they at least keep his hairdo permanently over the letter “e” in Mashable?

Alright, that’s all we have for this week. Admittedly, these stories aren’t going to make you look cultured or anything, but you’ll have some cool stuff to talk about.

There are a lot of fun and interesting things on the internet, but sometimes it’s hard to weed out the best stuff when it’s surrounded by all the other drivel. That’s why we created For The Fun of It – so people would have a one-stop-shop for light-hearted entertainment. So, anytime you’re in need of a mental palette cleanser (think, after a long and pointless meeting), just come here for a quick mood booster and for conversation ammo. While you’re busy doing important things, we’re here curating the funniest, weirdest, and most interesting things on the web.

What we found this week:

Homeless Hotspots

What’s a company to do when they’re holding a large conference and have limited online access? Strap mobile Wi-Fi devices onto nearby homeless people, of course. No, this is not a joke. The marketing company BBH Labs came up with this idea, and implemented it at the South by Southwest technology conference.

Although, BBH labs received quite a bit of criticism for their idea, we think it was kind of brilliant. The homeless workers really became part of the convention, and people couldn’t help but interact with them. After all, how often do you see an executive assistant chatting away with a homeless person?

We think this was a great way to bring attention to the plight and personalities of the less fortunate. Plus, the homeless people received $20 a day for toting around the devices, and most were pleased to be able to earn the money (and they got a t-shirt out of the deal). You can read the whole story at NYTimes.com.

What do you think, is this a smart solution or simple exploitation?

Marie Osmond Laughs So Hard She Pees Herself on Stage

How do some people get away with this stuff? If we were to pee ourselves in public, we’d undoubtedly experience some serious hazing, and undoubtedly be dubbed the “pisser” for the rest of our lives. Marie Osmond, on the other hand, can pee herself on stage, attempt to wipe it up with her shirt and pants, and people still think she’s adorable. WTF?

We actually read comments that said she handled the experience with “grace.” There’s nothing graceful about pissing on stage (even if it was an accident). If she knows her bladder is a little loosy-goosy then maybe she should consider wearing some Depends on stage – just sayin.

What People Think I Do/What I Really Do

Have you seen these picture things (we’re not sure what to call them) that are trending on Facebook right now? They use visual images to describe how certain types of people or careers are viewed by others. A lot of them are really funny. Here are a couple of our favorites:

Kids Cleans His Room Finds Winning Lotto Ticket

Some people have all the luck… a teenager in Scotland was bumbed about cleaning his room until he unearthed a pile of lottery tickets. He went to a convenience store to check the numbers and discovered he had a winner for about $83,781. Sheesh, all we usually find are some hairballs and possibly a dead spider. Read the whole story at MSNBC.
